The 15 day book blogging challenge, which is hosted over at goodbooksandgoodwine wonders what our deal breakers are and after some thought, we have come to the conclusion that we don’t really have any.  I mean, there isn’t really a topic or anything that makes us say “We would never read something like that.”  I think based on our conversation, the only thing we both avoid is slash.
Now, with that said, there are some things that turn us off while in the midst of a book so since we didn’t really have anything to say on the above topic, I thought I would include that list. Â Don’t worry, it isn’t that long. Â
- Bad editing – we can handle some issues and not have it hurt the story but if it gets to the point where I have to read, re-read, and re-read to try and figure out what is going on, that takes me out of the story and can be pretty frustrating. Â If you are going to take the time and effort to put work out for the public, invest in it and know that a great editor will only help you!
- Overuse of certain words…or as Jaime pointed out, use of the word nubbin. Â Yes people – nubbin. Or a couple of different c words (You have to comment to find out which ones.). Â These words are just not sexy so don’t use them in a romantic situation. Â It only makes us uncomfortable.
- Unbelievable characters – we enjoy character driven stories and when we come across one that has characters we can’t connect with or are completely unbelievable in action, speech, etc., we aren’t as invested in the story.Â
There you have it – not really our deal breakers but a list of something.  Tell us what your deal breakers are…if you have any.  And remember – comment if you want to know some of the other words that bother us.  They are bad enough that I didn’t want to put them in the actual post.  🙂
