If you’re planning on falling in love…Â
When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.
you’d better be sure…Â
Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.
… someone is there to catch you.Â
Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk.
Jaime’s Thoughts
Hi there – have we met? If so, then you know I adore Jill Shalvis and have just absolutely loved every single book I’ve read by her. Playing for Keeps is book #7 in her Heartbreaker Bay series and I just absolutely loved it.
I was really excited for this book because it’s Caleb and Sadie’s story and these are two characters who have rubbed each other the wrong way throughout the other books so it was so fun to see them start building a friendship…over a dog of all things! I think that Shalvis’s talent lies mostly in that her characters are relatable. None of them have a perfect life but she also keeps the drama to a minimum. Honestly, I have enough drama in my real life, I don’t need anything too heavy when I’m reading my romance and Shalvis hits that perfect spot for me.
Caleb and Sadie are both very guarded and for understandable reasons, so that was an added layer to this story. I loved loved loved Caleb’s sisters (the coven) and how protective of him they were, and I understood Sadie’s reluctance to get involved with anyone, much less Caleb. Relationship building is another of Shalvis’s strengths and not only between the main characters! I’m talking family and friends and yes…even the pets! If you’re new to her stories, I think you’ll be impressed with how wonderful all her characters come to find each other.
I think what I love most about reading a Jill Shalvis book is that I know what I’m getting. A story filled with fun and humor, sexy, relatable characters and just enough steam and drama to keep you turning pages.
Thank you to the publisher for an early copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
