What is Flashback Friday you ask?
I know… I know… As if you don’t have a million and one memes to follow! BUT we’re hoping that you might want to participate in just one more!
If you’re like us, you read a lot… you add a ton to your ‘to be read’ lists and you sometimes forget about some amazing things because they get pushed down either your favorites list or that pile of books you need to read. That doesn’t mean those books are no less amazing!
This is a way for us to highlight books that are older that maybe don’t get as much recognition now because they have been out for a while. Books that we read and loved or books that have been on our To Be Read lists for ages, but we just haven’t gotten around to them yet.

GRACELING (GRACELING REALM #1)

I read this book a while ago and ended up (for some reason) not putting a review into Goodreads for it. I’m a bit annoyed with myself for that but it just gives me a reason to re-read it and trust me, this one is totally worth it. Katsa is a strong female character and Po is her perfect counterpart. This story has action, humor, romance…everything, everything, everything.
So, here’s the short tale of me: I grew up in the countryside of northeastern Pennsylvania in a village with cows and barns and beautiful views from the top of the hill and all that good stuff. I lived in a rickety old house with my parents, three sisters, and a scattering of cats, and I READ READ READ READ READ. I read while brushing my teeth, I read while chopping parsley, the first thing I reached for when I woke up in the morning was my book; the only two places I didn’t read were in the car and in bed. What did I do then? The one thing I liked even more than reading: I daydreamed.

After college, she attended the MFA program at NYU and worked briefly as the world’s worst editorial assistant, and only marginally better assistant editor, at a major publishing house in New York. Her major career contributions during this time were flouting the corporate dress code at every possible turn and repeatedly breaking the printer. Before I Fall is her first published novel.
She is deeply grateful for the chance to continue writing, as she has never been particularly good at anything else.

Generally, when I rec a book from a series, I go with book one. But in the Midnight Breed series, the third was my favorite because of Tegan and Elise.
What I loved most about this story was that it was different. It wasn’t the vampire finding the human woman, falling in love and being scared to tell her what he is for fear that she’ll run. Elise knows what Tegan is. She has been a part of this world almost her entire life. Albeit in the safety of the Darkhavens.
This was about two people who have both loved and lost…and are scared to open themselves up to the possibility of finding that kid of love with someone else. But man…they totally find it.
