So basically we adore Heather here at Fiction Fare. Â She’s so talented and her stories are just so amazing. Â If you haven’t yet read any of her books (OMG WHAT) then you must immediately pick one up. Â I’ll Meet You There is in my top ten of all time list so … get on that. Heather is going to share her ten bookish things she’s thankful for but first, here are the details about a couple of her books!Â
If Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing separating Skylar from art school is three months of summer…until Skylar’s mother loses her job, and Skylar realizes her dreams may be slipping out of reach.
Josh had a different escape route: the Marines. But after losing his leg in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be.
What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and, soon, something deeper.
Compelling and ultimately hopeful, this is a powerful examination of love, loss, and resilience.
Release Date: June 13, 2017
Grace wants out. Out of her house, where her stepfather wields fear like a weapon and her mother makes her scrub imaginary dirt off the floors. Out of her California town, too small to contain her big city dreams. Out of her life, and into the role of Parisian artist, New York director—anything but scared and alone.
Enter Gavin: charming, talented, adored. Controlling. Dangerous. When Grace and Gavin fall in love, Grace is sure it’s too good to be true. She has no idea their relationship will become a prison she’s unable to escape.
Deeply affecting and unflinchingly honest, this is a story about spiraling into darkness—and emerging into the light again.
Top Ten Bookish Things I’m Thankful For
- My Library Card: I love the library so hard. I get books there all the time. What’s amazing is that I can download e-books and have books just put on hold for me. I don’t even have to walk my ass around the library looking for books because they’ll do it for me! Bookworm hack! Side note: my dear book downloading friends: please stop. It really does hurt us authors and it’s ten kinds of uncool. You can get books for free at the library – e-books, too! Please use this amazing resource. Okay? Thanks.
- Little Free Library: Have you seen these? They’re all over the country – I’m always stumbling upon one when I’m traveling. It’s such a beautiful idea. I’m all about accessibility and book sharing.
- Authors Who Are Super Accessible To Their Readers: I love that when I finish a book I’ve fallen head over heels with, I can immediately tell the author on Twitter and they will tweet me back. How amazing is that? My fave author on Twitter is Sarah J. Maas. We met that way and she’s been hugely supportive of my books and is such an inspiration to me as a fantasy writer. I adore that girl. She gives so much to her readers and deserves every little bit of her success.
- My Kindle Paperwhite: So, I confess, I was a super big hater of the Kindle up until last year. I finally broke down and got one because I was going to be abroad for nearly a month and I didn’t want to carry a million books with me. Now I’m obsessed. It’s so great for reading my friends’ manuscripts when I’m beta reading and a perfect travel companion. Plus the light makes late-night reading very easy.
- Book Bub Discounts: Holy hell! I just discovered Book Bub and am seriously addicted. It’s so amazing to get all these great e-books for, like, two bucks! It’s hard to exercise any caution.
- Books of Wonder: BOW has become a second home for me here in NYC. I’d only been living here for a few months when they agreed to be my vendor for my first book launch. I have always felt so wonderfully supported by them. They’ve helped create so much community here in NYC for writers, readers, and publishers. It’s a really special place, a kidlit zone that makes magic happen every single day. They have the best staff and events, too!
- Bookish Swag on Etsy: I will seriously go broke if I were to buy all the things I want. My best friend and I have way too much fun buying things for each other on Etsy – last year, I got her an Anne of Green Gables infinity scarf. She got me a ring with a quote about kindred spirits (Anne and Diana, naturally).
- My Fabulous Book Ends: Shout out to Knob Creek Metal Arts on Etsy for their gorgeous and very durable bookends. When I got my very first advanced copies of my very first books, I found this AUTHOR bookend. It sits in my office and it’s been amazing to see those ends grow further and further apart. It reminds me that I’ve achieved one of my greatest dreams.
- Banned Book Socks: My agent got these Out of Print socks for me last year for Christmas and I love rocking them when I’m at meditation classes (no shoes allowed!).
- The NYPL Library Gift Shop: One of my favorite places to take visitors to in NYC is the NYPL Gift Shop at the main library at Bryant Park. It’s amazing! So many wonderful bookish things and great gifts and books and all kinds of awesome. I can never leave this place without buying something, which is totally okay because the proceeds go right back to the library! Bonus points for being in a gorgeous, iconic building.
Thank you so much for sharing these Heather! I too could go broke on Etsy buying all the things and we love BOW and authors who are accessible to their readers!! (like you!!)Â
