I’m not a huge fan of D/s books. It’s sort of a known fact, if I’m being honest. I’ve never understood or had the desire to let some man to slap and spank my ass for some arbitrary bullshit before (or while) he’s banging me. And this makes it challenging to relate to the heroines of these kinds of books. But I am a fan of great storytelling. And once again, Rebecca Grace Allen has written a great story. On top of that, she utilized one of my favorite tropes.
I really loved the way the two MCs in this book came together. Both of them had tragic back stories. Lilly, the heroine, got out of an abusive relationship. And Jack, our hero, lost his wife to cancer just a year before.
I found myself invested in these characters. I loved their interactions. But I did want to punch Jack in the face sometimes because I found him to be an arrogant ass, and there were moments where I just wanted to sit down and have a long conversation with Lilly about why she didn’t need to put up with his bullshit. But even I have to admit that if the sex was this hot, I might put up with a little bullshit.
“You want to touch my cock? Feel how hard I am? Suck me?” Another nod, coupled with a slip of her tongue over her lips. “I don’t know if I should let you. You were a bad girl last week, touching me without permission. This time you need to earn it.”
Yeah.
Damn.
See what I mean?
I enjoyed this read, and I’ve come to expect nothing less than that from this author. If you like a cocky hero who needs to learn that his dick and heart are are actually connected, and a heroine who learns to trust and love again, this book is a great choice. I read it in one sitting. And I was so pleased with the way the story actually played out, even if I did feel like there was a bit more of the relationship that could have been explored.
This is the first book in a series, but this story is complete on its own. But I’m interested to see where she goes with the next one. Definitely worth the read if you’re in the mood for something steamy. And let’s be real. When are we not in the mood for that?
4 hot stars (or spanks) for this one.
