One of our favorites this year just happens to be by Mary E. Pearson – The Kiss of Deception. We both flailed over this book and are impatiently waiting for the next book of the series. The mystery of who is who in this book kept us guessing and add to this the fact that both boys are swoony, the world building is amazing, and the action dragged us right into the story.
Check out what this book is all about and then read what Mary shares about the holidays!
A princess must find her place in a reborn world.
She flees on her wedding day.
She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor’s secret collection.
She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father.
She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan.
The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can’t abide. Like having to marry someone she’s never met to secure a political alliance.
Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. She settles in among the common folk, intrigued when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

Let’s talk characters!
What would Kaden have on his Christmas list?
Why, Lia of course!
If Lia and Rafe are spending Christmas Eve together what would they be doing?
Monopolizing all the time under the mistletoe.
What would Rafe put under the tree for Lia this year?
I’m guessing a crown, because he so wants Lia to be his queen.
What’s Pauline doing this Christmas?
Besides “vacationing” in Civica, and hunting down the baddies, she’s busy knitting a lot of little booties and caps.
Now how about some questions for you!
When do you hang up your decorations?
A few days after Thanksgiving I go to storage and bring back the holiday boxes—on top of the ones I already have in my garage. It is crazy how much I have! It usually takes me several days to get all the decorations up, especially since I tend to reminisce about when I got each one. Some even belonged to my parents! One of my favorites is an annoying dog who barks out holiday songs. I’m a glutton for punishment.
Colored lights or white lights?
I keep changing—much to my husband’s chagrin. I’ve had colored lights the last few years (led) but I am not wild about them. Going back to white icicles this year. Or maybe I will put up both to keep peace in the family!
What’s on your holiday wishlist this year?
Warm fuzzy socks and a book to curl up with—which is all kinds of feels and coziness for me.
What’s your favorite holiday tradition?
Santa’s arrival. We have a large family and every year mid-evening it seems one of the guys has to run to the store for something and while he’s gone, Santa arrives, shaking his bells and bringing candy canes for all the kids (the big ones too) One year he arrived with a little baby gift he gave to my daughter who didn’t have a baby—yet. That’s how everyone found out a new family member was on the way. Lots of good memories.
Do you open gifts on Christmas eve or Christmas day?
Christmas Day. Ironically, both my husband and I grew up opening them on Christmas Eve.
What’s your favorite holiday movie?
That’s a tough one! I think I will have to narrow it down to three: It’s a Wonderful Life, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Home Alone. Those touch every weepy , nostalgic, and funny Christmas bone I have.
It’s midnight on New Year’s Eve – you can kiss any celebrity, living or dead. Who do you pick?
Hmm, I feel like Cinderella—except midnight brings good thngs.
Okay, Cary Grant, pucker up. My choice because he’s handsome, classy, funny, and has a great accent. The whole package. Also, he’s ahem—dead–so my husband won’t get jealous.
Now tell us a little about what’s on the horizon for you? Are you working on something new? Do you have something coming out soon?
The second book of The Remnant Chronicles, The Heart of Betrayal, will be out July 7th, 2015, and right now I’m working hard on the last book of the trilogy. But never fear, there is always time for a little holiday cheer! Lifting a hot spicy mug of cider to you! Happy holidays!
