Sometimes when you read as much as us, you don’t really get the urge to write super-detailed reviews about some books… sometimes you realize that you’re really behind and still want to share some quick thoughts about things you’ve read. That’s where this post came about. Check out some books we had shorter reviews written for and wanted to share!
What You Need by Lorelei James – 2 stars
I have to stop reading these books about millionaires and the women who just can’t seem to resist them. I’ve come to the realization that they just don’t do anything for me.
Brady Lund spends 80 hours a week in his office working. He never cuts loose and certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. When his brothers drag him to a night club he can’t help but notice the blond who works at this company … and has starred in his fantasies since the moment he noticed her months ago.
Lennox has a rebellious past but she hides it beneath conservative clothes and when sparks fly between them at her favorite bar, she throws caution to the wind and dives into a relationship with Brady.
I seriously swear that this guy must never have seen a tattoo or a piercing in his life, and having these things doesn’t make you a rebel in this day and age. I swear, for the amount of times that his focus was on them, simply because he appeared to be fascinated by them … not the fact that they were a part of her, made me want to toss my reader across the room.
Let’s also talk about insta-love. And not so much in the case of our rebellious Lennox, but instead with our captivating hero Brady. I didn’t buy it. This is a guy who is so immersed in his work and that life and not looking for a relationship, and suddenly he’s all in?
So… I’ll be honest, I found myself skimming quite a bit because I just wasn’t interested in these two. I don’t know yet if I’ll try the next in this series or not… I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you Berkley team for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Compromising Her Position by Samanthe Beck – 3 stars
I normally really love Samanthe Beck, but this one was just okay for me.
While I liked both Chelsea and Rafe individually, the evolution of their relationship was just kind of meh for me.
While the initial scene was pretty steamy, it sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I get why it happened… he assumed she knew who he was and she just thought he was someone else, but I don’t know, it was just … uncomfortable once I actually thought about what happened.
So now you know this story starts with a bang… literally, but there is more to this than just sex and I appreciate that Beck created a story that kept me interested even though there were some incredibly cliché things going on here. I didn’t love the depiction of the evil, bad, ex-boyfriend who suddenly has a change of heart and of course you have the playboy love interest who is trying to prove he’s more than just the impression people have of him.
I enjoyed the setting and loved the cute start to each chapter where Chelsea, in hospitality management, is answering weird questions regarding the resort she’s currently working at.
Definitely enjoyed this from Beck, but just didn’t love it like I do some of her other stories.
Grab it for a quick, sexy, steamy read!
Thank you for Entangled for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Misconduct – Penelope Douglas – 2.5 stars
Misconduct is my first Penelope Douglas book, though it probably won’t be my last. I say that because while I really enjoyed her writing style, this book just wasn’t for me.
I struggled to connect with Easton, our main character. She came across really bitchy to me and I hated it… and Mr. Marek. Ugh. I don’t even know. On occasion I have been known to enjoy a bossy guy, but he just rubbed me the wrong way in some parts of this story. I really struggled to understand their connection and to be honest I didn’t buy it except for on a physical level.  I wanted more than that.
Like I said, I’ll definitely check out some of Douglas’s other books, and please note that I may be the black sheep here as you’ll notice a lot of other people really loved this. Give it a try and see if it ends up being your thing.
Thank you to the publisher for providing an early copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
