The Fates are cackling their bony asses off...It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He's got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet. Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.Because history has once again been flipped to repeat. -- Jennifer L. Armentrout
Jaime’s Thoughts
I wasn’t really sure what I was going to think of The Return, but honestly, it was one of the books at the top of my list when we went to BEA. I had to have it because let’s be serious… Jennifer Armentrout is all kinds of amazing.
I was a little worried because … Seth. I didn’t love him in the Covenant series. Don’t get me wrong, I liked him, but he was competing with Aiden so … there’s that. So I was honestly in no hurry to read this until my lovely friend Liza said I had to. And I’ll be honest, once I started reading I couldn’t put it down.
I know I mention the Covenant Series above, and it’s true this is a spin-off of that series, but please note that if you haven’t read that series, you don’t necessarily have to in order to read this book. Armentrout does a great job of recapping where that series left off and this one picks up for someone who wants to dive right into this one.
Where the Covenant series kind of toes the Young Adult/New Adult line, The Return is definitely more on the New Adult side of things. Armentrout does chemistry between her characters amazingly well, and Josie and Seth might be among my favorites… maybe. Don’t make me choose.
Josie is just what you expect in a character from Armentrout… snarky, funny, strong and fierce. Yet she’s also just the right amount of awkward and vulnerable. And Seth… well, he might just be the best thing about this series, and after reading this I’m really happy she decided to expand this world focusing on his story, and what a story it is.
Seth has been tasked with watching over Josie by none other than Apollo… there are reasons for this that I’m not going to spill, but let’s just say I’m really excited to see where Armentrout takes this. Josie has no idea what’s going on, but suddenly her plans for the future are no more and she can’t seem to resist whatever is happening between her and this golden-eyed, hot guy who is determined to keep her safe.
If you’re a fan of Jennifer Armentrout, you’re going to want to grab this one on release day. If you haven’t experienced Armentrout yet, this just might be the perfect book to start with.
