Heads: The jock. He might spend all night staring at his ex or throw up in the limo, but how bad can her brother’s best friend really be?
Tails: The theater geek…with a secret. What could be better than a guy who shares all Heart’s interests–even if he wants to share all his feelings?
Heart’s simple coin flip has somehow given her the chance to live out both dates. But where her prom night ends up might be the most surprising thing of all…
Liz Czukas is a freelance writer (on sometimes sad or boring topics), and also writes books for young adults (which are rarely sad and full of kissing). Before that, she was a nurse and she still kind of misses starting IVs.
She lives outside Milwaukee, WI with her husband, son and the world’s loudest cat. She types too loud (according to her husband), spends too much time on the Internet, and can’t get enough of disaster movies. There is *always* a song stuck in her head, and she once won a hula-hoop contest.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
“I don’t believe in fate… I don’t like the idea that I can’t control the outcome of something. Your choices should be the only influence in your own life.”
Sliding Doors Meets Sixteen Candles.
I knew I needed to get my hands on this book as soon as I read that. Sliding Doors is one of my favorite movies. I’ve always loved the idea of alternate realities based on the choices we’ve made in our lives, and Ask Again Later was wonderfully done.
We basically get two stories in one with Ask Again Later all revolving around prom. Heart’s original plans of having a drama free prom are completely thrown out when two very different invitations to the dance occur.
Never mind the drama that begins when she accepts because she’s ditching her No Drama Prom-a plans.
I really adored this lighthearted, and funny read. From the many hijinks that Heart finds herself in, to the two different story lines I was completely enthralled with this story. We alternate back and forth each ‘reality’ with each new chapter… learning a bit more about Heart and her friends and family along the way and the end of this story had me smiling like a fool.
Never have I ever found the idea of a car trunk so lovely.
Heart herself was a wonderful character. She doesn’t really fit into any category… she’s not super popular but she’s got a solid group of friends that she can count on. Including Schroeder. Okay, so his name isn’t really Schoeder, it’s Chase. I seriously loved the romance in this book. I kind of had a feeling from the very get-go what was going on, but unfortunately, Heart very whole-heartedly believes in no dating and no falling in love because of some things in her past.
For Schroeder, this puts a big kink in everything when he finds himself crushing on her. Their friendship was really really cute and I have to say that my favorite part was wondering what human organ he was going to refer to her as next… aside from the trunk thing of course.
This story isn’t all fluff though… there of course is some drama, because prom can’t be drama free right?
Not only are the characters wonderfully done, Czukas’ style is smooth and easy to read. I never had any trouble following the two story lines and when the two finally converge into one I was wonderfully surprised with how happy I was with everything.
If you’re looking for a light contemporary romance, Ask Again Later is exactly the book for you. I’ll definitely be checking out anything Czukas has coming up and you definitely need to pick this one up when it comes out.
Thanks to HarperTeen for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts!
