Iris Alden and Carter Blackwood couldn't be more different. Change-averse Iris likes her life neat and organized, while Carter's itchy feet mean he doesn’t plan to stay in the same place for long.
When Carter moves into the house across the street from Iris, to renovate it, she fights the disruption it causes in her life. Before long, though, it's not simply the house Carter's rebuilding, but Iris's heart, too.
First off in the vein of being completely truthful not only is Jo Richardson Cookie Cutter’s author one of my very favorite people but also I was blessed to pre read this book for Jo through all its stages. Now with that out of the way lets get to the GUSHING!
Carter Blackwood moves to a quaint and hysterical sub division in South Carolina, where the last thing he expects is Iris Alden and all her “baggage” as she see’s it. He’s there only temporarily anyway, so he doesn’t see the harm in maybe getting a little cozy with his neurotic caretaker neighbor. He’s made a life for himself by never staying in one place too long, by flipping foreclosed homes for profit… All while avoiding his own “baggage”.
So when these two meet its fireworks from the first moment on. Iris does all she can to ignore Carter but when he’s popping up everywhere what is a girl supposed to do, I mean those eyes, and those muscles… ok ok back on track. Life has thrown both Carter and Iris some hurdles but the thing I love most about this book is the fact that everything they deal with is real. These things happen to people all the time and the love story feels authentic and built in a genuine way.
This book infuses so much humor and great secondary characters to really provide a setting which feels and seems very true to life. There are many laugh out loud moments but the quiet sincerity of the emotions in this book leave you breathless.
I couldn’t be happier Jaime and Erin asked me to review this book. I have loved Iris and Carter just as long as Jo has, but I have the unique perspective of a reader who had the chance to see their evolution. I love every bit of Cookie Cutter and the author, who is not only incredibly talented but a great person as well.
