Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Excellent second book to the series!
I was wondering where Dertimg was going to take it but I was happily surprised!
This second book picks up several months after the first ended and Vi and Jay are settling into life as a couple. With the arrival of a few new students and Rafe and Sara Priest there is a lot happening in this book.
Vi is being harassed… A dead cat left at her house, a threatening note left for her and prank phone calls. To top it off, Sara Priest who works with the FBI is interested in her and her abilities. This book in the series focuses on Vi’s struggle to trust those around her. She is convinced that even though she would have trusted jay with all that is going on in her life before they were dating, now things are different and she isn’t sure she can still share everything with him.
I can’t lie… That whole plot point bugged the crap out of me. I kinda wanted to shake her and tell her to get over herself. But I’m glad that it was short lived. I was so angry at her for not telling someone what was going on until well after the fact. I get that she’s trying to be independent and figure things out on her own, but we all need people to confide in and trust and she wasn’t using those around her to help when she could have been…
Mike and Megan, the new kids have a tragic family history and It’s the one thing that ends up putting them all in danger. Vi wonders if it’s time to start looking at her ability as a tool and start using it to help others. I’m intrigued as to Rafe’s abilities… I hope with the next book we get a bit more information on that.
Jay will forever make me swoon … I’m sure of it. His love for Vi makes me jealous… Lol they are only 16 and 17 but holy crap where was this boy when I was growing up.. And where is he now LOL!
All in all a great read and with the arrival of book 3 in the series on Tuesday… You know you will be able to find me that day!
