The second novel featuring small New England town of Harvest Cove, where the residents know that Emma Henry likes things nice and orderly—but everyone has to let loose sometimes…Event planner Emma Henry is used to focusing all her attention on reaching her goals and letting romance fall by the wayside. But when her sister Sam’s bachelorette party prompts the most tightly-wound Henry to let her hair down, Emma’s night ends with the entire town linking her to a man who could lay waste to anyone’s best-laid plans.Army vet Seth Andersen thought that joining the police department in sleepy Harvest Cove would offer a quiet, normal life. But when he finds himself responsible for uptight Emma Henry at the end of her wildest night ever, his world turns unexpectedly complicated—and he’s surprised to discover he doesn’t mind at all…
I picked up book 1 in this series totally by chance and immediately fell in love with the small New England town of Harvest Cove. Maybe I was already missing Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series, but I’m finding that this series will certainly fill the void the end of that series left in my heart.
In book 2 – we meet Samantha’s sister Emma. She’s a bit of a type A – likes to be in control and has everything planned out to reach the goals she’s set for herself, leaving romance at the wayside. She has no plans to live up to the reputation the small town has given the Henry girls. A wild night out for Sam’s bachelorette party could change all that though, and it has her letting her hair down and doing things she never imagined she would… and linking her to someone unexpected.
Seth is new to town… an army vet who thought the small, quiet town of Harvest Cove would be a perfect place for a nice, quiet life. When he’s tasked with keeping an eye on the uptight Emma, he finds tons of complications… and he also finds he just might be okay with them.
Once again, Castle does a great job of creating the small-town feel in this story. I really love it when the setting it almost its own character and I feel that way about Harvest Cove. I’m definitely looking to find out more about it in book 3!
Both Seth and Emma are understandably wary in this installment. Seth has some personal demons he’s working through and Emma… well, like I said, she’s trying to build a positive reputation in town and she doesn’t want people to get the wrong idea about her. But they can’t deny the pull they have towards each other… even if it is the last thing either is looking for.
Seth’s struggle was heartbreaking… there’s just no other way to describe it. I found it easy to understand his stance on the things happening in his life and his wariness to dive into anything with Emma… at least fully. But on the other hand, I really loved Emma’s demand that she deserved more … that she wasn’t just a good time to be had. She deserved to know who Seth was and the continually avoidance by him irritated me just as much as it did her.
That said, I still thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series and think you will too!
