“Find Me.”
These are the words written on Tessa Waye’s diary. The diary that ends up with Wick Tate. But Tessa’s just been found . . . dead.
Wick has the right computer-hacking skills for the job, but little interest in this perverse game of hide-and-seek. Until her sister Lily is the next target.
Then Griff, trailer-park boy next door and fellow hacker, shows up, intent on helping Wick. Is a happy ending possible with the threat of Wick’s deadbeat dad returning, the detective hunting him sniffing around Wick instead, and a killer taunting her at every step?
Foster child. Daughter of a felon. Loner hacker girl. Wick has a bad attitude and sarcasm to spare.
But she’s going to find this killer no matter what.
Because it just got personal.

Find Me by Romily Bernard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Are you looking for a well written mystery/thriller … then look no further. Find Me by Romily Bernard is the first in a series where we meet Wicket Tate. At 17, Wick has seen it all. She’s jaded and now trapped in a foster system because her drug dealer, con artist father is on the run from authorities. Now she’s living with foster parents Todd and Bren who offer her a chance at stability and safety, only she’s afraid to cling to it always wondering when it’s going to be ripped away. But it’s not just her she has to worry about. She has a younger sister and she’s determined to keep her safe and if that means using her experience as a hacker to earn money to stash away for when it all comes crumbling down around them, then so be it. But keeping her safe might be harder than she could have ever imagined.
Wick was an interesting character for me… like I said, she’s so jaded at such a young age, and she has learned not to depend on anyone but herself. She struggles with letting people in. People like Griff, the boy who used to live in the trailer park near her before she moved to the nice side of town. She’s always been a little infatuated with Griff…
Griff has a smile that can charm teachers, but never cheerleaders. I spent all last year kinda sorta maybe wanting him to give me that smile. Then he did, and I had no idea what to do.
And yes, there is a bit of a romance to this story. I say a bit, because I would have liked, and hope to see in the upcoming books, a bit more of the development of the relationship between Griff and Wick. I want more, more, more of why they like each other and I want to see them work together more. I’m greedy like that. Despite the fact that I didn’t get as much of that in this first book, there is no doubt that I fell for Griff too. (I may have even chatted him up on our upcoming podcast… don’t miss that at the end of March!) He’s definitely got his swoon down and I just may have marked up my copy of Remind Me whenever he was on a page.
“Three years Wicked. I waited three years and you were worth every damn second.”
Yes, he calls her Wicked and I’m completely okay with this.
I think Bernard’s writing style will appeal to a lot of people… it’s clear and concise, just like Wick is and I appreciated that and it made for a very quick enjoyable read. Additionally, I thought the pacing of the story was really well done. The mystery begins immediately when you open the book and doesn’t ever slow down. From a suspicious police officer, to the appearance of a diary of a former friend who commits suicide, and then the reappearance of Wick’s father, Bernard takes you on a ride filled with mystery and suspense.
While I felt the actual storyline (for me at least) was a bit predictable, I never once thought I wasn’t going to finish the story. Bernard keeps you engaged with wonderfully written characters and a fast moving story and you will suspect everyone!
If you’re in the mood for a suspenseful YA … something with some mystery and a bit of edge… something with a bit of swoon, then definitely pick up Find Me by Romily Bernard. I completely enjoyed this book and am looking forward to book 2, Remember Me which arrives later this year.
