Lucky Break by Kelley Vitollo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I have had the good fortune to be able to read a couple new releases from Entangled’s Bliss line which focuses on uplifting and heartwarming stories and Lucky Break totally fits that description.
I didn’t know going in that this line fades to black so if that’s not what you’re looking for then this line of books might not be for you. What I will say is that Lucky Break is a wonderfully written contemporary romance.
We first meet Sidney Williams in LA where she’s almost late for an audition and taking a bus. Her car was stolen and she is a struggling actress. After her horrible morning she comes home to find out her boyfriend of the past year has gotten a part in a movie … in NYC. He’s leaving her. And that seems to be the crux of Sidney’s insecurity. Important people in her life always seem to be leaving her. Five years ago, she left first. Cutting all ties with her friends in Shamrock Falls, she took off for LA and didn’t look back. At the time, she left her best friends Kade and Rowan, the two people other than her aunt who made up her life in Shamrock Falls.
Kade Mitchell hasn’t had an easy life. He grew up being blamed by his father for the abuse he laid on his mother and the only person he could turn to for support was Sidney. She saved him. But the day after graduation she up and leaves, no goodbyes and no contact since.
He’s back in Shamrock Falls to reopen Lucky’s, a dream he’s determined to complete when Sidney suddenly reappears in town he’s determined to not let her be a distraction… until he can’t fight what’s between them anymore.
This is a friends … to not friends… to friends to more story and I loved it. The characters were wonderfully written and I can see where the author might be able to write some spin off books here for sure. (Rowan, Betsy, Jace) The chemistry between Sidney and Kade was believable and the story was incredibly sweet and while it’s a simple romance, it’s told in a wonderful way.
I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a quick light and wonderful read. Kade will win your heart for sure.
As an aside, Kelley Vitollo also writes as Nyrae Dawn, author of the What a Boy Wants series among many other YA books.
