Serendipity by Lisa Clark O’Neill
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Ava Martinez hasn’t really had it easy lately. As the niece of a well-known crime lord, she’s been forced to live a life of solitude for the most part, only letting in a few trusted people.
A rash decision one evening changes everything.
Ava accidentally stumbles upon a man lying unconscious in the trunk of her uncle’s henchmen and she makes the choice to help him. After depositing him at the local ER she assumes and hopes that will be the end of that.
She couldn’t have been more wrong.
Jordan Wellington just happens to be the Assistant District Attorney and after taking a couple days to recuperate gets back into the swing of his routine, which, incidentally includes rescuing a dog. When he shows up at the local vet’s office to get him checked out, he didn’t expect to meet Ava and Ava certainly didn’t expect to see the man she saved standing in front of her. Thankfully with no memory of her.
Ava tries to ignore him and his advances but his charm wins her over.
I knew the minute I saw you walk into the bar in that red dress. My heart stopped. And when it started again, it beat for you.”
While this book had elements of romance, I wouldn’t say that that was the bulk of the story, instead, O’Neill gives the reader quite the suspenseful mystery here. Jordan is working a case that has to do with a serial killer and he’s pretty sure the murderer isn’t the man they have behind bars… AND I’m not going to say much more because… well… it’s a mystery and I’m not going to spoil anything for you!
Additionally, I really enjoyed reading about characters that were in their 30’s. I usually do, probably because I’m in my thirties and there tends NOT to be any stupid. forced misunderstandings. I did find that while I enjoyed the characters, I wasn’t emotionally attached to them in any way.
The book overall was a very enjoyable read. Also, as a reader, you’re introduced to quite a few Wellington brothers that I’m happy to hear will make up a series. I really enjoyed the style and am definitely looking forward to more books by this author.
