Snowed Over by Angie Stanton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I’d probably give this 3.5 stars. Definitely a cute winter read.
I actually loved that it was set in Wisconsin. (I’m from Wisconsin too! Did you know?) LOL Anyway, enough about me!
Katie Brandt isn’t having the best year… her parents have separated and all their typical holiday traditions are … well… they’re in the shitter. Her mom is making her go to “middle of freaking nowhere Wisconsin” (and I know exactly where she’s talking about.) for the holiday to meet “not my boyfriend Tom”
She’s accepted a drive there from a friend of a friend who starts the trip by being more than 20 minutes late.
Alex Walker, said boy, is a Sophomore at UW Madison and at the ripe old age of 20 is engaged to a girl back home… only he’s not very happy about it.
When the ride to the middle of nowhere Wisconsin hits a snag because of a blizzard, Alex and Katie have the opportunity to really get to know each other and dispel and thoughts they might have assumed about each other.
I definitely thought this was a cute story. Perfectly light and fluffy for a short holiday read. While this is listed as new adult, it’s definitely on the tame side compared to some of the other NA stuff I’ve read, so don’t dive in expecting lots of naughty!
I liked the characters that Ms. Stanton created, though Trina was a bit cliche, both Alex and Katie were nicely written. I did immediately dislike Katie’s mom though. I’m sorry I couldn’t help it. She was selfish and immature… while I get that her divorce has upended her life, the way she reacted and talked to Katie, her daughter and an adult in her own right was uncalled for.
So… other than a horrible mother, this book was definitely a cute winter read! Check it out for a little holiday cheer!
