A born flirt and good-time party girl, Emerson has never had a problem finding a willing guy. She’s always chosen her hookups carefully, and she’s never broken her three cardinal rules:
Never let them see the real you.
Never fall in love.
Always leave them begging for more.
Then Shaw comes along. A hottie from the wrong side of the tracks, he’s immune to her flirtatious banter and come-hither smile. After rescuing her from a disastrous night at a biker bar, he doesn’t even try to take her to bed—he calls her a tease and sends her home instead. Unable to resist a challenge, or forget the sexy, dark-eyed, bad-boy biker, she vows to bring him to his knees.
But instead of making Shaw beg, Emerson finds herself craving him. For the first time in her life, she’s throwing out her rule book. Suddenly, she’s the one panting for a guy she can’t control—a guy who won’t settle for anything less than the real Emerson and who forces her to do things she’s never imagined, including facing a past she thought she’d buried.
A guy who just might leave her wanting more. . .
A brief stint in law school taught her that case law was not nearly as interesting as literature – teaching English seemed the natural recourse. After several years teaching high school students to love Antigone, Sophie resigned with the birth of her first child and decided it was time to pursue the long-held dream of writing.
In less than three years, her first book, Once Upon A Wedding Night, a 2006 Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Nominee for Best First Historical, hit book shelves. Her second novel, Too Wicked To Tame, released in March 2007 with a bang, landing on the USA Today Bestseller’s List.
Jaime’s Thoughts
Tease by Sophie Jordan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
If you’re looking for an intense, emotional read, then Tease might just fit the bill.
Emerson has never had a problem finding a willing guy and she’s always the one calling the shots and the guys are always left begging for more because she just doesn’t do relationships. But a disastrous night at a biker bar has her depending on someone she doesn’t know to get her out of a bit of trouble.
Shaw doesn’t need the trouble that he’s sure would come along with getting to know Emerson, but he’s intrigued by her and he isn’t going to let her get away with trying to control him or their relationship. If he’s going to be in it, he expects her to be in it 100% too and that means she has to stop pushing him away and getting her to face up to some major issues in her past that she had buried.
“I want you,” he said starkly, the barest quiver in his hoarse voice. “Me and you. Together.” He drew in a deep breath, his broad chest lifting. “But I can’t chase you forever.”
My first Sophie Jordan book was Foreplay, book 1 in this series, and when I had the opportunity to read Tease, I grabbed it. Tease isn’t horribly different than many of the other New Adult books out there and while I enjoyed it, I think Foreplay was slightly better in my opinion. At times there was way more drama than was necessary and quite often it was easy to even forget that these characters were in college other than the major partying that our main character does and her occasionally stopping in at her dorm.
What I do love about these books is that Jordan writes in an almost effortless style that’s easy to read and enjoy. Her characters are always intriguing and I found that I wanted to know more about both Emerson and Shaw. And on top of all that, Jordan can also write some wonderful bedroom scenes and Tease definitely lived up to Foreplay in that regard.
“What do you want me to do? Say it.”
“Take me… fuck me.” I moistened my lips, something else running through my mind.
And like he knew that, like he could read my mind, his hand cupped my face. His mouth brushed my ear. “I’m going to do that, baby, but what else?” Goose bumps broke out across my skin at the hot fan of his breath against the whorls of my ear. “Say what else I’m going to do to you. You know.”
I knew what he wanted to hear. I remembered what he had promised to do to me.
“Make love to me.” Was that my voice? I didn’t even recognize the low purr. “I want you to make love to me…”
He pulled back to smile, slow and wicked, at me, and a shiver rushed through me. “All right then.”
If you’re looking for a steamy new adult series to devour, then definitely pick up the Ivy Chronicles. Foreplay is already out and Tease will be shortly. I’m definitely looking forward to Wild coming later this year.
