The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Let me just start out by saying that I could’t put this book down.
Violet and Jay are best friends … have been since grade school and as they start the school year, Jay has suddenly become the ‘it’ guy at school and Vi struggles with her new and changing feelings for her friend. Only he doesn’t take advantage of the popularity, instead his focus remains on his friendship with Vi and that only endeared me more to him. But Vi’s feelings for Jay aren’t the only thing she’s dealing with in this series.
Vi can sense the dead. Since she was a little girl she’s been able to feel the ‘echoes’ left behind by people who have been murdered and that echo attaches itself to the killer. Her parents and her uncle and Jay are the only people who know about this. Enter a serial killer to the small town of Buckley, Washington and Vi has a lot to deal with.
I loved the relationship between Jay and Vi – I didn’t feel like it was forced and it was very teenagerish..(yes a new word) They are teens, and Derting captured that tenuous relationship between these two who are not quite dating but bestfriends, both wanting more, but afraid to take that step forward to make their feelings known.
Jay had me swooning over him and I’m a grown woman. LOL he’s fiercely protective of Vi and yet he’s sweet and adores her. *sigh*
Vi was some shrinking violet (excuse the pun) The ‘talent’ she has isn’t something she is happy to have, but she’s determined to put it to good use once the killer starts targeting young girls in her town.. girls she knows.
This book has a little bit of everything – angst, mystery, love and a boy that will make you swoon – I’m excited to dive into the second (which I have upon writing this) and the third in the series comes out next week! Looks like I picked the perfect time to start this series!
Go read it!
