The Last Echo by Kimberly Derting
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I for some reason have been putting off the review for this book… not because I didn’t want to do it, I really do, just because I want to make sure I get all the feeling here!
I started The Bodyfinder series just before book three, The Last Echo, came out and I fell in love with Violet and Jay. I swear to god Jay just might be one of the swooniest fictional characters out there. “I miss you like crazy.” <— the note Jay left on her pillow after she was working late one night… *sigh* who doesn't want to come home from a long day and find that on their pillow???
Violet has a talent… a creepy talent, but a talent none-the-less. She can sense people who have died violently, and she can feel their “echo” on the person who harmed them. In the previous books we learned quite a bit about it and she used this skill but kept it secret. At the end of book 2, we find she’s not quite alone with her unique talents and certain people other than her family know she can do “something”. Enter Sara Priest. Sara is a forensic psychologist and wants Vi to join her team. Everyone on the team has some sort of talent, but it’s Rafe who piques her interest the most. Rafe makes her feel different and she can’t seem to explain why and this is what causes her to question things in her life.
Book 3 brings us the “girlfriend collector” who does just exactly what his name implies. He tries to make these women love him, ending tragically. It’s up to the team to figure out who he is and where he is and stop him before he gets his next victim.
I really really like Violet… and I love her relationships with her family and especially with Jay. Unfortunately there’s a bit of a triangle in this book, which I was meh about but didn’t change my opinion of either her or Jay in the end, but for me it really dragged the book down. We also don’t get much of her old friends in this book, instead focusing on the new team that she’s working with.
This book is filled with suspense and action … even a bit of romance and of course the swoony boy! Derting writes in a way that keeps you riveted to the story and makes you feel like a part of the story. You truly don’t want to miss this series and I really can’t wait for the next book! Go give it a read!!
