Lover Undercover by Samanthe Beck
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Samanthe Beck is easily becoming one of my go to Contemporary Romance writers… I loved Private Practice so when I saw her name on Lover Undercover, I knew I had to read it. I’m so glad I did.
Kylie Roberts is a yoga instructor who loves her twin sister. When Stacy breaks her leg in a fall while working at a Hollywood ‘men’s club’ she agrees to fill in for her just until it heals. How hard could it be to dance for strange men on stage right?
At least that’s what she thinks right up until she gets on stage and notices Trevor McCade in the crowd.
After the first night she’s ready to throw in the towel, but her sister really needs her help to keep this job and they definitely need the income. But nothing could have prepared her in the discovery of a dead body outside the club… or the fact that Trevor is a detective. One that needs her help to figure out who is killing her regulars.
Samanthe Beck writes some amazing chemistry. From the very first private dance between Kylie and Trevor I was hooked. The steam and UST is so well written and while they have an instant connection it didn’t seem at all forced or unbelievable to me.
“I like bad girls.” He grazed his teeth along her neck, provoking an aroused little moan from her. “One in particular, I can’t resist. I may have to take you into protective custody.”
He braced her palms on the door, nudged her feet apart with one of his, and then sent his hands under the hem of her T-shirt, up the silken ladder of her ribs. She moaned again when he cupped her breasts. Her hips shifted restlessly against him when he squeezed.
“Oh, God. Are you frisking me?” Helpfully, she stepped out of her flip-flops. “I’m unarmed. I promise.”
“You were born with weapons, and you know it.”
Please remember that this is fiction of course, and so you have to suspend you belief about a few things… While there is a police investigation happening, there are a TON of things that would not happen during a real investigation. But I was able to ignore all that and really enjoy the writing and the story.
If you’re looking for a hot, sexy, sweet romance definitely pick this one up, and while you’re at it, go check out Private Practice by Ms. Beck as well.

Sterling Andrews is just trying to make ends meet and move forward with her life. The stress of supporting her parents and her younger sisters has taken its toll and for once she throws caution to the wind and decides to have some fun. A fundraiser with her friend Penn seems to be the best place to find it, but meeting Jack Vaughn wasn’t what she was expecting.
After the recent loss of his adopted mother, Jack is trying to regroup and figure out where and what he’s supposed to be doing. With a reputation as a bad boy chef following him around, he struggles with trying to put that behind him and find the more that is missing in his life.
One chance meeting and a HOT HOT encounter, he can’t get Sterling off his mind and so he does the only thing he can think to keep her around… he hires her to help him organize his late mother’s belongings and then he makes her a proposition she just can’t seem to say no to… Four weekends where he will indulge all her fantasies and help her escape her boring life.
I really really enjoyed the characters that Gordon has created with Recipe for Satisfaction. First of all, Jack… Good Lord – the man is a chef … (swoon) he is pierced and has tattoos… I mean it’s like Gina read my diary and decided to put all the things I would love in a man into this one. He’s trying to shake the bad boy image that in my opinion was probably only partially earned.
Sterling… I liked her… I did. But in all honesty, I really wanted her to stop being a doormat for her family. I get that you probably feel like you owe them and want to help them, but after the amount of times she got burned and what they had done to her… HELL NO. She just seemed very blah to me in the end and I often times caught myself wondering just what it was that had Jack interested.
I assume that this book will be a series surrounding the Madewood Brothers, but the end was a bit abrupt… and I wanted just a bit more. If you’re looking for a quick, hot read – definitely pick this one up. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Thank you to Entangled & Netgalley for the advanced copies in exchange for an honest review!
