When one touch isn’t enough, why resist?
Road trips are supposed to be fun. Or, at least, full of hot sex. For photographer Lilly Grayson, the fifteen-hour drive to her friend’s wedding with Nate Jennings will be neither. Not that Nate isn’t sexy—the man is six-foot-three-inches of mouth-watering Marine. But Lilly’s been there, done that…and he walked away. Now it’s time for a little payback. The kind that’ll make a man desperate for a taste of what he can’t have.
And Nate wants a taste—so badly that he can barely keep his hands on the wheel. But the scars and ghosts of his last tour still haunt him. He can’t give into temptation, not this time. Lilly deserves a whole man—one who can love her the way she deserves to be loved, even if she doesn’t believe it can happen. And that can’t be Nate. Not when he’s leaving again in two weeks, and this time, he’s not sure he’ll return…
Four lessons, no strings…
Detective Rafe Davenport has always made Courtney DeLollis uneasy. While her instincts whisper, Touch him, her mind says, Run. But since she learned that he’s dominant in the bedroom, she hasn’t been able to forget about it. She should be appalled—she knows all too well what happens when a man has too much control—but a deeper, darker part of her is fascinated…
And so is Rafe. The sexual tension between them is thick enough to touch, and damn, does he want to touch. So he suggests something that will benefit them both. Four scenes—because anything more is a relationship, and Rafe won’t go there ever again. Each scenario is designed to tease and torment. To show Courtney that with every submission comes the reward of scintillating pleasure. But once he has Courtney down on her knees, Rafe realizes that she might be the one woman capable of bringing him to his…

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
So, I’m just gonna say it right up front: I loved this book.
There.
Now you know.
The funny thing is that I almost didn’t read it. Mostly because I hadn’t read the first book in the series, but also because my TBR list is like a hundred miles long. But I’m super glad that Jaime asked me if I wanted to now because holy mother of swoon! This book has everything I love about contemporary romance. And because it’s Brazen, it reads like erotica. What I mean by that is it’s absolutely hot.
I really enjoyed the hero in this one, y’all. Can we talk about Nate for a minute? Because he deserves to be discussed. He is hands-down one of my favorite hero types. An asshole who’s not really an asshole. Well, maybe just a little. He’s definitely done some asshole things where Lilly (our heroine) is concerned. But we find out there’s more to his story. And so much more to him.
These two have a past. One that started with a one night stand, and ended with a really terrible walk of shame. And they don’t like each other. Which we all know is secret code for the fact that they really want to bang each other senseless. PS: I love that secret code.
Mother nature forces them together with a tropical storm and a grounded flight. And that’s where the story takes off.
I loved the back and for the between the two of them. And I really enjoyed the not-so-underlying sexual tension. The author did a really good job of creating sexual chemistry that felt believable. I kept turning pages even though I was tired. Mostly because Nate says stuff like this:
“I want you, Lilly. I want your taste in my mouth. I want you riding my cock. Screaming my name. Begging me for release.”
Yeah.
That.
If you’re looking for a story with a lot of heart and heat – a story about a damaged hero and a brazen heroine, look no further. This is the book for you. It’s a great length. I read most of it in one sitting. And even though it’s a series book, the story definitely can stand on its own. Definitely looking forward to more from Nicolette Day.
4 stars!
I adore Christine Bell’s writing… she’s one of the adult writers that I can count on for a good story. Down on Her Knees is part of the Dare Me Series and it brings us the story of two of the characters who I was dying to know more about.
Rafe and Courtney.
At the end of Down the Aisle, I was completely intrigued by Rafe and so was Courtney. Having just gotten out of a very controlling relationship with her ex, Courtney isn’t looking for anything serious and certainly not with the enigmatic Detective Rafe Davenport. The idea of him being a dominant in the bedroom, while intriguing isn’t anything she is looking for.
”Make no mistake,” he breathed, letting his lips brush the soft skin of her jaw, exulting in her full-body shudder. “I might not be in the market for love, but any woman who wants to sleep with me will absolutely and unequivocally be my woman in the bedroom. If she’s not? If she can’t trust em to give her everything she needs…everything she could possibly want? Then I’ve failed her.”
Rafe has his own issues, after losing someone important to him he isn’t ever going to give his whole self to anyone again. But, he can’t seem to get Courtney out of his mind. He suggests they do four scenes and then part ways. Not only will it make Courtney see and appreciate what he does, but it will allow him to get her out of his mind.
Let me just say that for me, this was BDSM light, so even if that’s not your thing, I think you could go into this and still appreciate it. While the story itself was a little on the light side for me, we do learn a bit about both Rafe and Courtney and seeing them learn to trust each other and come to some realizations was nice. I also like the male friendships in these books and this one had some great moments between the guys as well.
If you like an alpha guy with a dirty mouth, and a female character who comes into her own, definitely check out Down on Her Knees as well as the other books in the Dare Me series. I think you’ll put Christine Bell on your must read list like I have!
