The most beautiful man I've ever seen is the one who can ruin everything...
The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.
And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.
I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful -- pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.
But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.
And it works--if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can't afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.
Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo...
I’m bingeing on Sarina Bowen books because one of my book besties loves her and I’m in need of some new authors to love! I am happy to report that everything I’ve read so far has been a hit… including this one!
Grace is desperate to find a permanent position that affords her the luxury of paying her rent and putting food on the table for both her and her sister. When an opportunity to help out the Walker family matriarch put her recently deceased brother’s estate in order, she jumps hoping that it will turn into the full-time job that she needs. She just wasn’t expecting to have Callan Walker overseeing her every move… and tempting her in every way possible.
Callan Walker, otherwise known as the Walker family black sheep party boy with an Australian accent, wasn’t expecting to hear about the death of his beloved uncle at a yacht party, a week after it happened. He has no choice but to rush back to New York before his estranged mother does something he can’t fix. When he finds out that there is a stranger going through his uncle’s belongings and cataloging everything for his mother to sell off, he certainly doesn’t expect it to be Grace… and he doesn’t expect to be bowled over by her either.
As Callan spends his time secretly searching the apartment for an updated will that he knows will match his uncles wishes more than the one that is being executed by his mother, Grace is determined to prove her worth… even if it is to a woman who is showing her true colors with each and every conversation.
You guys… Callan is everything I love in a guy… slightly cocky, sexy, and even a little sensitive. I love the relationship that he had with his uncle, and even though it’s in the past, as a reader, the authors did an amazing job showing the bond that was between them. Callan didn’t have much family that was on his side throughout his life, but he could always count on his uncle and I loved that.
His mother is a giant “B”… and that is all I’m going to say about her.
Grace is everything I loved in a heroine! She’s smart and determined to make a happy life for her and her sister, no matter what she has to do. Even if that means giving up her dreams for a more stable kind of job. The relationship between Grace and her sister was exactly everything that a sisterly relationship is. They fought, they argued… but no matter what they love each other and that’s apparent in all their interactions.
Grace and Callan together are so hot. The chemistry between them is off the charts and so, so sexy. I loved watching them get to know each other and I couldn’t’ get enough. But there is a big glaring issue. Grace is working for Callan’s mother… the mother who has basically disowned him and would love more than anything to get back the shares of the family corporation. She expects Grace to report back on Callan as well as anything of interest and yet, as Grace gets to know Callan, she finds that he’s not exactly the guy he’s been made out to be.
Both having been burned in the past also brings another set of issues to the relationship developing between them. As they eventually find themselves working together towards the same goals, Grace can’t help but remind herself that she is just a temporary part of the Walker empire and Callan Walker’s life.
If you’re a fan of contemporary romance I highly recommend this book – and I am hoping that we might actually get another book in this series… I would love to get to know Callan’s sister a bit more!
