He’s been a bad, bad rake—and it takes a governess to teach him a lesson
The accidental governess.
After her livelihood slips through her fingers, Alexandra Mountbatten takes on an impossible post: transforming a pair of wild orphans into proper young ladies. However, the girls don’t need discipline. They need a loving home. Try telling that to their guardian, Chase Reynaud: duke’s heir in the streets and devil in the sheets. The ladies of London have tried—and failed—to make him settle down. Somehow, Alexandra must reach his heart... without risking her own.
The infamous rake.
Like any self-respecting libertine, Chase lives by one rule: no attachments. When a stubborn little governess tries to reform him, he decides to give her an education—in pleasure. That should prove he can’t be tamed. But Alexandra is more than he bargained for: clever, perceptive, passionate. She refuses to see him as a lost cause. Soon the walls around Chase’s heart are crumbling... and he’s in danger of falling, hard.
This might just be my very favorite Tessa Dare book to date.
If you are new to historical romance, start here and you’ll definitely understand why so many people adore Tessa Dare!
You will absolutely find yourself cheering for Alexandra from the start. She’s smart and bookish and she loves astronomy and despite a rough childhood, she’s determined to make something of herself. With all her job prospects gone, she accepts the position of Governess to the infamous rake, Chase Reynaud’s mischievous wards, and you guys… these girls are just one of the best parts of this book!
Chase… he’s broody and bad tempered and determined never to get attached to anyone … that includes the young girls terrorizing his life… and Alexandra, no matter how much they try to get under his skin.
As Alexandra works to gain the trust of Daisy and Rosamund and show Chase that what the girls really and truly need is just a family that they can count on, Chase is determined to keep emotions out of the equation.
Good banter is one of my favorite parts of romance books and Dare knocks it out of the park with this one. I absolutely loved Alexandra and Chase when they were together… I have to mention that between the daily funerals and the fact that Chase is basically creating a man cave to escape his wards It’s been a while since I was this entertained.
The Governess Game was funny, it was heartwarming, it was charming, it was sweet and it was sexy and I can’t rave about it more. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!!
Thank you to the publisher for an early copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
