Secrets. Obsession. Murder. Victoria is about to discover just how dangerous it can be to lose yourself.
Victoria Zell doesn’t fit in, but she’s okay with that. All she needs is the company of her equally oddball boyfriend, Andrew. She doesn’t care what anyone else thinks…until magnetic, charming, mysterious Z comes into her life, and she starts lying to everyone she knows in an effort to unravel his secrets.
And then something terrible happens. Someone is dead and it’s time for Victoria to come clean. Interspersed with news clippings and police interviews, Victoria tells her story to Andrew, revealing her dark, horrible secrets…secrets that have finally come back to haunt her.
Describe UNNATURAL DEEDS in 5 words.
Obsession, madness, and murder… together!
How did UNNATURAL DEEDS come about, what was your inspiration? What made you think you had to write this story?
THE STORY OF MY LIFE. The story of a lot of people’s lives. Just doing something completely reckless, something that could destroy everything, because you want to escape the sameness of life.
What was the hardest scene for you to write in UNNATURAL DEEDS and why?
I know full well that if a reader doesn’t like the main character, you’re going to have a hard time holding their interest. The scenes where Vic’s falling for Z. were all really hard for me to write because her boyfriend, Andrew, is just perfect, and she’s betraying him. It’s hard to make a low-down cheating wreck seem sympathetic!! She’s coming clean to Andrew, telling him all these details of what happened. So she’s filled with guilt but at the same time I was hoping to portray that she isn’t totally sorry it all happened from the way she goes into so much detail about it. So, truth be told, she’s a jerk… but hopefully with enough redeeming qualities to hold the reader.
Can you share (without spoilers) a line or section of UNNATURAL DEEDS that is your favorite?
“Sometimes, Andrew, I feel less like a person and more like a hamster on one of those wheels.
Maybe that’s why all this happened. Maybe I just wanted to escape the wheel.”

Since we’re talking 2016 books, what upcoming 2016 release (besides your own) are you most excited to read and fangirl over?
Stacey Ramey’s The Homecoming is coming out the same day as mine! I can’t wait to read it!
When you’re not writing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I don’t have much spare time! I write, work full time, and have 2 kids that I like to spend time with.
What are you currently reading?
Kara Thomas’ THE DARKEST CORNERS. Love those thriller murder mystery books!!!
Any advice for aspiring writers?
Keep at it. Never quit. I know, sometimes I want to curl in a ball and cry, “Why does nothing good ever happen to me?”, too, but quitting is one way to ensure that nothing good ever happens to you!
What’s next for you? Are you working on anything right now that you can tell us about?
Yes, my next book, SOLITUDE, was pitched as The Shining for teens, and I’m hoping that’ll be out next year!
Tell us 3 random facts about you.
I have a double-jointed thumb.
I am obsessed with all things Agatha Christie, especially Hercule Poirot.
I eat a bowl of ice cream every day, just because.
